You’ll need to show proof of insurance when driving in California. If you get stopped by a cop. They can tow your rental away and write you up.
If you don’t have your own, you can buy it from the company.
I don’t know where you live, but my understanding was that most states require you to have your insurance paperwork in the car with you whenever you are driving.
I am not totally sure about the answer,I think your should call your local agent to get some suggestions.
